How to send money from M-PESA to an NCBA account

Use paybill 880100, and put your NCBA account number in the account field. That is the whole answer. The money lands in the NCBA account, usually within a minute or two, and the M-PESA confirmation SMS is your receipt.
The steps
- Open M-PESA, or dial *334#.
- Choose Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
- Business number: 880100.
- Account number: your NCBA account number, exactly as it appears on your statement, with no spaces.
- Enter the amount, enter your M-PESA PIN, and confirm.
- Read the confirmation SMS before you close it. It names the account holder, which is your one chance to catch a wrong account number.
What it costs
The charge is Safaricom's standard pay-bill tariff for the amount band, not an NCBA fee, and NCBA does not charge you to receive it. Because the tariff is banded rather than a percentage, sending one payment of KES 10,000 costs less than four payments of KES 2,500. The same number collects for businesses
If a shop asks you to pay to 880100 with something other than an account number in the account field, that is not a scam and not a mistake. NCBA lets merchants collect on the same paybill, with the merchant's name or reference as the account. Morara Home Furniture, for example, collects on 880100 with Morara as the account. So read the instruction the business gives you, and do not substitute your own NCBA account number for it.
Sending the other way, NCBA to M-PESA
There is no paybill for this direction. Move money out of NCBA to M-PESA from *488#, the NCBA Now app, or internet banking, all of which carry a mobile-money transfer option. The charge there is a bank fee set by NCBA, not the M-PESA pay-bill tariff.
If it does not arrive
Check the account number in the confirmation SMS first, because a mistyped account is by far the most common cause and the money sits unallocated rather than vanishing. If the number was right and the credit has not appeared after an hour, call NCBA on 0800 720 444 with the M-PESA transaction code. Do not send a second payment until the first is traced.
