M-PESA Till Requirements (Documents Checklist)
By Dennis Kiptoo · M-PESA Till hub
The full checklist so your till application clears first time. Sole trader: national ID or passport, personal KRA PIN, Single Business Permit, bank account confirmation, and a Safaricom line in your name. Registered company: registration certificate, company KRA PIN, Single Business Permit, business bank account, and the admin Safaricom line.
Sole trader documents
Original national ID or passport; personal KRA PIN; a current Single Business Permit from your county; a bank account confirmation (a sole-trader account is usually accepted); a Safaricom line in your name to manage the till.
Registered company documents
Certificate of registration or incorporation; company KRA PIN; Single Business Permit; business bank account confirmation; the admin Safaricom line.
What Safaricom checks
The business name must match exactly on every document, the permit must be current, and the bank confirmation should be recent. Safaricom verifies your details against KRA and the bank, so mismatches block approval.
Frequently asked
Can a sole trader get a till?
Yes, with ID, KRA PIN and a business permit.
Do I need a business bank account?
A sole-trader account is usually fine for a till.
Why must names match?
Safaricom verifies the business against KRA and the bank, so mismatches block approval.
