What to ask before taking any card
- The issue fee and the annual fee.
- The replacement fee if it is lost, which is where cards quietly cost money.
- The foreign transaction charge, as a percentage, if you will use it abroad.
- For credit cards, the interest rate on carried balances and the length of the interest-free period.
- For prepaid, the load fee and which currencies it holds.
- The ATM withdrawal limit, and what an out-of-network withdrawal costs.
