DTB Weza: what it costs and who qualifies
By Arnold Ochieng · Diamond Trust Bank Kenya hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Diamond Trust Bank Kenya.
DTB Weza is a 30-day unsecured mobile loan for existing DTB customers, from KES 500 to KES 300,000 within your assessed limit. It costs a 7% processing fee on the amount you request, plus 20% excise duty on that fee, plus interest at DTB's prevailing rate. You get it on the m24/7 app or on *382#, option 8.
The money does not go to M-PESA
DTB is unusually direct about this, so we will be too. Weza is not paid to M-PESA. Approved funds are credited to the DTB account you nominate, and nowhere else.
If you are searching for a loan that lands in your M-PESA wallet, Weza is not it, and no amount of setup will make it behave that way. You would have to move the money out afterwards, which costs the wallet-transfer fee on our charges page. Budget for that before you borrow.
What it actually costs
Take a KES 10,000 Weza loan. The processing fee is 7%, so KES 700. Excise duty is 20% of the fee, so a further KES 140. That is KES 840 charged at disbursement, before any interest. Interest is charged separately at DTB's prevailing rate, which DTB does not publish as a single figure, so ask for it in the app before you confirm.
On a 30-day term, KES 840 on KES 10,000 is roughly 8.4% for one month in fees alone. Annualised, fees of that size are a large number. That is not a reason never to use it, but it is a reason not to use it for anything you could wait a month for.
The rollover is the part that hurts
DTB recovers the full outstanding amount automatically from your nominated account on the 30-day due date. If the money is not there, the balance rolls over automatically for a similar term and attracts another 7% fee on the outstanding balance.
Note what that means: the fee is charged again, on the balance, every time it rolls. A loan you cannot clear does not sit still, it compounds in 7% steps. Repay early if you can, which DTB allows in full or in part through its digital channels or an inward transfer.
Who qualifies
- An active DTB account that has been open and actively used for at least six months. A new account will not qualify, however much you deposit into it.
- An active DTB mobile banking profile, which means you have been to a branch and registered. See the mobile banking page.
- A good Credit Reference Bureau rating. Weza is a bank loan and it is assessed on your credit file.
Weza is reported to the CRB. So is missing a payment
Meeting the requirements does not mean you get a limit
How to get it, on either channel
On the m24/7 app: log in, tap the Weza icon, choose your nominated DTB account, accept the terms and conditions, authenticate with your PIN. Your limit appears, and you pick an amount inside it.
On *382#: dial, select option 8 for Weza, opt in, choose the nominated account, accept the terms, authenticate with your PIN. Then go back into the Weza menu, choose Loan Request, and pick an amount inside the displayed limit.
DTB INUA is a different thing, and the published code is wrong
DTB INUA is a 30-day salary advance, not a general loan. Your employer has to sign up for the facility with DTB first, both employer and employee need DTB accounts, and the advance limit is agreed between the employer and the bank rather than assessed on you. Repayment comes out automatically when your salary lands.
DTB's own FAQ tells customers to activate INUA by dialling a short code. We dialled that code on 12 September 2026 and it does not answer as DTB. We are therefore not reprinting it, because a salary-advance activation flow asks for your ID number and a PIN, and those are not things to hand to whoever holds that code now.
If your employer offers INUA, get the current activation code from DTB directly on 0719 031 888, or from your HR department. Do not take it from a search result, including the bank's own FAQ page, until DTB has corrected it.

Frequently asked
How much can I borrow on DTB Weza?
KES 500 to KES 300,000, but only up to the limit DTB assesses for you, which may be much lower or nil.
What does DTB Weza cost?
A 7% processing fee on the amount requested, 20% excise duty on that fee, and interest at DTB's prevailing rate. All collected at disbursement.
Does DTB Weza pay into M-PESA?
No. DTB credits your nominated DTB account. Moving it to M-PESA afterwards carries a separate DTB fee.
Can I get DTB Weza without a CRB check?
No. A good CRB rating is one of the eligibility requirements. It is not a no-credit-check loan.
What happens if I do not repay Weza in 30 days?
The balance rolls over automatically for a similar term and attracts another 7% fee on the outstanding amount.
Why can I not see a Weza limit?
Your limit is DTB's assessment of your account activity and credit profile. Meeting the basic requirements does not guarantee an offer.
Can I repay Weza early?
Yes, in part or in full, through DTB's digital loan channels or an inward transfer.
