DTB mobile banking: *382# and the m24/7 app

The DTB USSD code is *382#. We dialled it on 12 September 2026 and it answers as DTB. It works on any handset with no internet connection, and the DTB m24/7 app does the same jobs with a nicer face. You have to register first, and registration means a branch.
If you have seen *385# somewhere, ignore it
A number of sites, this one included until today, have published *385# as DTB's mobile-banking code. It is wrong. *385# appears nowhere on dtbk.dtbafrica.com, while *382# appears on DTB's Mobile Banking page, throughout its FAQs, and in the meta description of its own Weza product page. We dialled *385# on 12 September 2026 and it does not answer as DTB.
That matters more than a wrong number usually would, because a USSD menu is where people key in banking PINs out of habit. Do not enter a PIN into a menu you did not expect. Use *382#.
Registering, and the bit people get stuck on
- You must already hold a DTB account with a valid mobile number on it. There is no way to register a phone that is not attached to an account.
- Ask for mobile banking during account opening, or walk into any DTB branch and apply. Setup is free.
- DTB sends you a 4-digit OTP once you are set up.
- Dial *382# and use that OTP to set your own 6-digit PIN. This step is on USSD even if you only ever plan to use the app.
- For the app, download DTB m24/7, log in with the 6-digit PIN you just set, and answer the prompt to choose security questions.
What you can do on *382#
Balance and mini-statement. Airtime for yourself and others. Internal transfers between your own DTB accounts. PesaLink to any other bank. Move money to M-PESA and Airtel Money. Bill payments. Cheque status and cheque-book ordering. Cardless ATM withdrawal. Device management, for when you change phone. And Weza, DTB's 30-day loan, on option 8.
What it costs is not uniform, and some of it is free. The charges page has DTB's own published table.
Forgot your PIN? You can fix it yourself
Only if you set security questions when you registered. DTB's self-reset works like this: enter the wrong PIN three times, and on the fourth attempt a self-reset prompt appears. Give your account number and ID number, verify with the 6-digit OTP, answer your security questions, set the new PIN and accept the terms.
If you never set security questions, or the reset fails, it is a branch visit with your National ID. There is no phone-only route around that.
New phone, and new SIM, are two different problems
New phone, same SIM: you can fix this yourself. Dial *382#, choose Device Management, enter your PIN, select the old device, block it, end the session, then log in to the app afresh.
New SIM: you cannot. DTB requires a branch visit for SIM activation. This catches people who swap a lost line and expect mobile banking to follow it.
Getting your customer ID for locked statements
