DTB runs a dedicated diaspora range: the Voyager KES and foreign currency (FCY) accounts, a Diaspora Savings account, a Diaspora Salary account and Diaspora Just4me. There is a separate diaspora contact line: 0759 206 345 or 0719 031 840.

Use the diaspora line, not the main switchboard

DTB publishes distinct numbers for diaspora customers: 0759 206 345 and 0719 031 840, alongside the general 0719 031 888. Opening an account from outside Kenya involves document certification and identity verification that a branch teller is not set up to handle over the phone, so start with the diaspora team rather than the general queue.

Why a KES and an FCY account, not just one

The Voyager range comes in both Kenya shillings and foreign currency for a reason worth understanding. Money you are sending home to be spent in Kenya should convert once, on the way in, and sit in shillings. Money you are holding, or that you may send back out again, converting it twice costs you the spread both times. If you are doing both, that is an argument for holding both, not for picking one.

Getting money there

Once money is in Kenya and sitting in M-PESA, paybill 516600 moves it into the DTB account with your 10-digit account number as the reference.
