Paying at Carrefour with M-PESA, in store and online

By Michael Mwangi · Carrefour Kenya hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Carrefour Kenya.

In store: Lipa na M-PESA, Buy Goods, using the till shown at your checkout. Online: pay inside the Carrefour app, which takes M-PESA, cards, vouchers and MyCLUB points, and offers M-PESA on delivery for orders under KES 5,000. There is no Carrefour paybill.

Why there is no Carrefour paybill

Pay Bill exists so a biller can tell which customer paid, which is why it asks for an account number. A supermarket does not need that: it is selling across a counter and the transaction ends when you walk out. So Carrefour uses Buy Goods, the rail built for exactly that, and there is no account number to enter and no paybill to remember.

In store, step by step

  1. At the till, choose Lipa na M-PESA, then Buy Goods and Services.
  2. Enter the till number shown at that checkout. Many lanes will instead send a prompt to your phone, in which case you skip straight to checking the amount.
  3. Enter the amount, then your M-PESA PIN, and confirm.
  4. Show the cashier the confirmation SMS before you pack.

The till we hold, and its limits

paybillke lists 5050 against Carrefour Kenya as a chain-level till. It is useful for sanity-checking a number a cashier reads out. It is not a substitute for the number on the screen in front of you, because tills are issued per branch and per lane and are not published centrally. Our own record carries a caveat on it for that reason. If the two disagree, the checkout wins.

Online, and the on-delivery option

In the Carrefour app you check out with M-PESA (approving an STK prompt), a card, a voucher, or MyCLUB points, and you can combine them. The option worth knowing is M-PESA on delivery for orders below KES 5,000: the money leaves when the shopping arrives rather than when you order, which is real protection in a category where substitutions and missing items are common.

About this page

paybillke is an independent payments directory and is not Carrefour or Majid Al Futtaim. Checked 13 September 2026. In store, always use the till number displayed at the checkout you are standing at. Delivery areas and the M-PESA-on-delivery threshold are set by Carrefour and change, so confirm them in the app.
