MyCLUB points and Carrefour vouchers, and what they are worth

MyCLUB points can be applied as payment inside the Carrefour app, alongside M-PESA, cards and vouchers. That makes them closer to money than most Kenyan loyalty schemes, which only let you redeem against a narrow set of rewards.

Spendable points are worth more than earnable points

The question that decides whether a loyalty scheme is worth anything is not the earn rate, it is what you can do with the balance. Points you can apply straight against your shopping are effectively a discount you control. Points locked to a rewards catalogue are worth whatever that catalogue is worth, which is usually less. MyCLUB is in the first category.

Vouchers travel further than the store

Carrefour issues vouchers that are redeemable in store and in the app, and some partners outside Carrefour accept them too. EvoPay, the cashless parking platform used at many malls and private car parks, is one of them. That is a genuinely useful overlap, because the mall you are parking at is often the mall you are shopping in.

Why we publish no earn rate

Loyalty terms are adjusted quietly and often. A stale earn rate reads as authoritative while being wrong, which is worse than no number at all, and it is the same failure mode that put a foreign price ladder on another retail record on this site.
