Visit WiseEnter the USD, GBP, or EUR the sender pays from abroad. We model PayPal's commercial-receipt fee schedule + the FX margin + the on-arrival M-PESA cut and show the exact KES that lands in the recipient's wallet.
Net to recipient's M-PESA
KES 11,731
Total all-in cost: KES 1,219 (9.41% of the send)
Note: Uses PayPal's commercial-receipt fee schedule (4.4% + fixed). Friends-and-family receipts skip the variable fee but still pay the same FX margin and on-arrival 1.5% on the PayPal-Equity-M-PESA path. Business accounts are not yet available in Kenya.
FX rates baked in are mid-market reference values as of June 2026 and shift daily. For the actual rate on your transfer date, the displayed quote in PayPal Kenya is authoritative. This calculator is for modelling expected cost, not a binding quote.

How we verify →PayPal Kenya is genuinely the most expensive working remittance rail into Kenya for one reason: it stacks three percentage cuts in series rather than competing on any single one. The model:
On a USD 100 commercial receipt, a Kenyan typically ends up with roughly KES 12,000-12,500 in hand. Compare that to Wise on the same USD 100, where the equivalent number is roughly KES 12,800. The aggregate gap on a $1,000 send is large enough that for sustained income, anyone using PayPal is essentially paying for the convenience of the existing account.
Affiliate-driven KE finance sites usually quote PayPal's 4.4% headline and leave the FX margin and on-arrival cut unmentioned. The total cost is the sum of all three, plus the standard M-PESA withdrawal fee at the agent. Modelling them in series gives the actual net-to-recipient figure that's missing from most aggregator coverage.
The structure is current (4.4% + fixed + FX margin + 1.5% on the Equity-M-PESA path). Exact fixed-fee amounts and FX margins update; PayPal's pricing page at paypal.com/ke is the live source. We refresh the figures quarterly.
F&F skips the 4.4% variable fee. It does NOT skip the FX margin or the on-arrival M-PESA cut. Net-to-recipient improvement is real (~4 percentage points) but you're still paying 5-6% all-in.
Wise typically delivers KES 1,500-3,000 more on a USD 100 send. Sendwave often wins on small sends thanks to a near-zero flat fee. We have dedicated calculators for both: see /calculators/wise-kenya-fees-calculator and /calculators/sendwave-kenya-fx-calculator.
No: as of May 2026, only personal accounts are available in Kenya. Sustained commercial income usually shifts to Wise Business or Payoneer. See our /paypal-kenya hub for the alternatives.
