NAWASSCO water bill calculator (Kenya 2026)

Enter your monthly water consumption in cubic metres. The tool estimates the water charge, sewer surcharge, standing charge and VAT using indicative WASREB block-tariff bands published for NAWASSCO. Treat the output as a check on your paper bill rather than an exact quotation.

How we verify →

How the estimate is built

NAWASSCO bills residential consumers using a WASREB-approved block tariff: a small lifeline block priced below cost, then progressively higher rates as consumption climbs. Your total bill is the sum of water charge across all blocks you traverse, plus a fixed monthly standing / meter charge, plus a sewer surcharge (typically 70 percent of the water charge) if your property is connected to sewer.

What the estimator does not include

  • Water resource use levy (WSTF cess), charged on some tariff schedules at KES 0.50 per m³.
  • Any pollution or effluent levy the county has approved on top of the base tariff.
  • Outstanding arrears from prior months carried into this bill.
  • Reconnection fees where the account was previously disconnected.

When the estimator is wrong

The tariff bands modelled here are indicative and may be one WASREB review behind the current approved schedule. If your bill differs from the estimate by more than 15 percent, request the current tariff schedule from NAWASSCO customer care (0719 050 100 / 0700 770 770) or check wasreb.go.ke → My Tariffs.

Frequently asked

Are these tariff bands verified against the current WASREB schedule?

No. They are indicative bands based on published block-tariff structures. WASREB reviews tariffs on a public-consultation cycle. Verify against wasreb.go.ke or your latest bill.

Why does my actual bill exceed the estimate?

Common reasons: meter estimation (not an actual read), a hidden leak, arrears carried forward, sewer charge applied where you did not expect, or a new WSTF or pollution levy line item.

Does NAWASSCO charge VAT on water?

Piped domestic water in Kenya is VAT-exempt. Sewerage services and some commercial supplies can carry VAT depending on the tariff class.

How do I check my meter reading myself?

Locate the meter, read the black digits (whole cubic metres), subtract the previous month reading, and compare to the consumption printed on the bill. Report deviations in writing to the utility.
