What Ratiba is

Ratiba is Safaricom\'s M-PESA standing order. Schedule a recurring Pay Bill, Buy Goods, or Send Money execution at a fixed frequency (weekly, monthly). Common uses: paying rent on the 1st of every month, school fees by the 5th, recurring contributions to a chama or SACCO.

The fee structure

Setting up a Ratiba is free. Each execution incurs the normal M-PESA fee for that transaction type. So a Ratiba sending KES 25,000 monthly to a Paybill costs KES 105 in fees per execution (the standard Paybill fee for that bracket), or KES 1,260 over a year.

How to set up a Ratiba

  1. Open the M-PESA app or dial *334#
  2. Choose Ratiba (Standing Order)
  3. Select transaction type (Send Money, Pay Bill, Buy Goods)
  4. Enter recipient, amount, frequency, start date, end date
  5. Confirm with PIN. Ratiba is now active.

Frequently asked

Does Ratiba have its own fee?

No additional fee for setting up or maintaining a Ratiba. Standard M-PESA fees apply on each scheduled execution.

What if my balance is insufficient on the scheduled day?

The Ratiba execution fails and you receive an SMS notification. Most active Ratibas retry the next day. Repeated failures can pause the standing order until you re-confirm.

Can I cancel a Ratiba?

Yes. Open the M-PESA menu, navigate to Ratiba, find the active standing order, and choose Cancel. Cancellation is immediate.
