FAQ

Is TapTap Send really free?

Zero flat fee, yes. TapTap Send makes its money on the FX margin baked into the exchange rate (0.8-1.2% below mid-market). Total cost on a $100 US-Kenya send is about $1.80 all-in, competitive with Sendwave.

How does the FX margin work?

If mid-market is 128.99 KES/USD, TapTap might show you 126.70-127.75 depending on corridor and amount. That gap of 1.24-2.29 KES/USD is the margin. On $100 it works out to $1-1.80 all-in cost, on $500 to $6-9.

Do fees vary by sending country?

Yes. US-Kenya has slightly wider margins (~1.8% on $100) than EU-Kenya (~0.9% on €100). This reflects TapTap's stronger EU rail investment. UK sits between at ~1.2%.

Which funding methods are cheapest?

All accepted funding methods have the same total cost because TapTap embeds all fees in the FX rate. US: debit card. UK: FPS or debit. EU: SEPA. Canada: Interac or debit. No credit-card option, which is what keeps the model economically viable.

How does TapTap compare to Sendwave on fees?

On US corridors: Sendwave $0.49 flat + ~1% margin = 1.50% all-in; TapTap $0 + ~1.8% margin = 1.80% all-in. Sendwave slightly cheaper on US. On EU corridors: TapTap typically wins by 0.2-0.5 pp.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. TapTap shows the delivered KES on the confirmation screen with no on-arrival deductions. The recipient gets exactly the KES amount TapTap quotes.
