How to Register for SasaPay in Kenya (Free, Step by Step)
By David Wachira · SasaPay hub · paybillke is an independent guide and is not affiliated with SasaPay.
Registering for SasaPay is free, and if you have your ID on you it takes only a few minutes. SasaPay is a mobile money wallet by ViewTech Limited, regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya, so registration involves a real identity check, which is normal and protects your money. You need to be at least 18 years old with a valid ID.
The steps
- Install the SasaPay app from Google Play or the App Store, or dial *626# on any phone.
- Enter your phone number and your ID number to start the sign-up.
- Add your email if asked, though it is optional, and provide your next of kin details.
- Visit your nearest SasaPay agent to complete activation, carrying your original ID.
- Set your secret four-digit PIN and choose a security question.
What SasaPay checks, and why
SasaPay verifies the details you give against government records, including the Integrated Population Registration System and the eCitizen or business registry. This is why you must use your real name and ID number. Once the check passes, your account is activated straight away and you get a confirmation SMS from the sender ID Sasa Pay.
What it costs
Registration itself is free and needs no bank card. The only cost is the normal charge your mobile network applies for data if you use the app, or for USSD sessions if you use *626#. There is no SasaPay sign-up fee.
Common mistakes to avoid
Use the exact name on your ID, since a mismatch stalls the identity check. Keep your PIN secret from the first day, because you are responsible for its safety. And activate at a genuine SasaPay agent, not through anyone who asks you to send money to complete registration, because activation never requires a payment.
