Visit SendvaluMoneyGram is a global remittance company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Founded 1940 (originally as Travelers Express). Acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners in 2023 and taken private. Operates in 200+ countries with one of the largest physical cash-pickup networks in the world, including extensive Kenya partner coverage.
Three main paths. (1) Cash pickup: sender pays in cash or via card at a MoneyGram agent abroad; recipient collects cash at a Kenya partner location (Postal Corp, Equity Bank, Co-op Bank, others) with ID + reference. (2) M-PESA: digital sender via moneygram.com or app delivers direct to recipient wallet. (3) Bank deposit: digital sender deposits direct to KCB, Equity, Co-op, and most major Kenyan banks.
Cash pickup is the most expensive: USD 5 to 12 fee plus 2 to 4 percent FX margin. Digital-to-M-PESA: lower fee, often USD 2.99 to 4.99 plus 1.5 to 3 percent margin. First transfer is often promotional (50 percent off fee or fee-free up to USD 100).
Wise is consistently cheaper for digital-to-M-PESA transfers. MoneyGram only makes sense when cash pickup is needed (Wise does not offer cash pickup). For a family with M-PESA, use Wise.
Both are legacy giants with similar pricing. Western Union has slightly broader cash-pickup network in Kenya. MoneyGram is sometimes faster on digital transfers and runs more first-transfer promos. Compare both on transfer day; the gap is usually under 1 percent.

Postal Corporation of Kenya branches, Equity Bank branches, Co-op Bank, several other partner agents. The MoneyGram website has a location finder; over 1,500+ partner locations across Kenya. Recipient brings ID and the 8-digit transaction reference.
