NSSF contributions used to mean a trip to a branch. Since NSSF partnered with M-PESA you can remit from your phone, and self-employed and voluntary contributors use this route every month. The account field is your NSSF membership number.
The verified paybill
NSSF is paybill 333300. The account is your 10-digit NSSF membership number. This is the same paybill whether you contribute as an individual, a voluntary member, or an employer remitting on behalf of staff.
Pay NSSF step by step
- Open the M-PESA app, or dial *334#.
- Select Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
- Business number: 333300.
- Account: your 10-digit NSSF membership number.
- Enter the contribution amount.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and confirm.
Keep the M-PESA SMS. Contributions reflect on your NSSF portal within about 48 hours, not instantly, so do not panic if it is not visible the same day.
The deadline and the penalty
Checking your contribution landed
Because the portal syncs rather than updating live, allow 48 hours before you go looking. If after that it still has not appeared, contact NSSF with your M-PESA transaction code and your membership number. The 10-character code is your proof the money moved.
What it costs
NSSF is not zero-rated, so standard M-PESA paybill fees apply.
| If you contribute | M-PESA fee | Total off your wallet |

| KES 1,080 | KES 10 | KES 1,090 |
