Tax position for Kenyan freelancers
Kenyan tax residents pay tax on worldwide income. Online freelance income is treated as business income, file under TOT (1.5% of turnover, if under 25M annual) or as self-employed sole proprietor at PAYE bands (if you prefer that route). Either way, set aside ~25-30% for KRA. The calculator's "estimated Kenya tax" output is a top-bracket placeholder, adjust based on your actual filing strategy.
Wise beats PayPal for most Kenyan freelancers
On a USD 5,000 monthly income, switching from PayPal+forex (~6% loss) to Wise (~1% loss) is KES 30,000+ extra in your pocket monthly. Wise also gives you a USD account (great for diasporans + freelancers) and instant Kenyan FX visibility.
