Your Tap2Eat top-up has not appeared

The usual cause is the account field. It must hold the phone number registered with Tap2Eat, which is not necessarily the handset you paid from. Check the M-PESA SMS, confirm the paybill read 956781, then contact Tap2Eat care on 0713 379230 with the transaction code.

Work through it in this order

  1. Read the M-PESA SMS. The paybill should be 956781 and the recipient should be the Food for Education Foundation.
  2. Check the account number you entered. It must be the registered number. Paying from a spouse’s phone and entering that phone’s number is the single commonest error.
  3. Has the number on the account changed? If you switched lines and told nobody, the wallet is still attached to the old number.
  4. Give it a short while. Then check the balance through the school or the helpline.
  5. Still missing? Call 0713 379230 or email customersupport@food4education.org with the M-PESA transaction code, the child’s school, and the number you paid to.

Do not pay again first

If the money went to the wrong registered number, a second payment made the same way goes to exactly the same wrong place, because the mistake is in the account field rather than in the transaction. Trace the first one before sending another.

How to check a balance

Through the school lead, or by contacting Tap2Eat care. Tap2Eat advertises a USSD balance-check code, and the build document behind this page carried it, but we could not confirm it and we do not publish USSD codes we have not verified. Ten of the nineteen codes this site dialled over 12 and 13 September 2026 did not answer. If Tap2Eat confirms it, it goes in.
