Equity Bank Kenya's SWIFT code is EQBLKENA and Co-operative Bank's is KCOOKENA. The table below has 15 Kenyan banks. We took each code from the bank's own website only, not from a directory, and each row links to the page we read.

What a SWIFT code does

A SWIFT code (also called a BIC) tells a bank abroad which bank in Kenya should receive the money. It does not identify you. Your account number does that. So a transfer from abroad needs both: the bank's SWIFT code and your account number.

Some banks print an 8-character code and others an 11-character one. Use the code exactly as your bank publishes it. If the sender's form will only accept one length, ask your bank which to enter.

Banks not in the table

We looked for these on the banks' own websites and did not list a code. Ask the bank directly.

  • KCB Bank Kenya: KCB Kenya’s own site describes SWIFT transfers but, on the pages we could read, does not print the code.
  • Diamond Trust Bank Kenya: No code on the DTB Kenya pages and forms we read.
  • Standard Chartered Kenya: Its Kenya FAQ prints a 10-character code. SWIFT codes have 8 or 11 characters, so ask the bank for the exact one.
  • National Bank of Kenya: No code on the NBK pages and forms we read.

SWIFT code, bank code and branch code are different

Kenyan banks also have a bank code and branch codes. These are local numbers used for transfers inside Kenya, such as RTGS and EFT. Co-op Bank's own FAQ shows the difference: its SWIFT code is KCOOKENA, while its bank code is a separate number. Someone sending from abroad needs the SWIFT code, not the local bank code. Some senders also ask for your branch name, so have it ready.

What to give someone sending you money from abroad

  1. Your full name exactly as it appears on the bank account.
  2. Your account number.
  3. The bank's full name and address, as the bank gives it on its transfer page.
  4. The SWIFT code from the table above.
  5. Your branch name.
  6. The correspondent (intermediary) bank for that currency, if your bank publishes one. Equity and Stanbic, for example, list a correspondent bank for each currency on their transfer pages.

Banks charge for receiving a SWIFT transfer, and the sender's bank and any correspondent bank can take a cut too. Check your bank's tariff guide before you agree an amount. For smaller sums, a money transfer service paying into M-PESA or your account is often cheaper. Compare them on send money to Kenya and in our guide to the cheapest way to send money to Kenya.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Equity Bank Kenya SWIFT code?

EQBLKENA, as printed on Equity Bank Kenya's own SWIFT transfer page. The same page lists a correspondent bank for each currency.

What is the Co-operative Bank of Kenya SWIFT code?

KCOOKENA, from Co-op Bank's own FAQ. The local bank code on the same FAQ is a different number and is not used for transfers from abroad.

Is a SWIFT code the same as a branch code?

No. A SWIFT code identifies the bank to banks abroad. Branch and bank codes are local numbers used for transfers inside Kenya. A sender abroad needs the SWIFT code and your account number.

What is the KCB Bank Kenya SWIFT code?

KCB Kenya’s own website, on the pages we could read on 25 October 2026, does not print it, so we do not list one. Ask KCB through its official channels or check your account documents.

What details does someone abroad need to send money to my Kenyan bank account?

Your name exactly as on the account, your account number, the bank’s name and address, the SWIFT code, your branch name, and the correspondent bank for the currency if your bank publishes one.
