DPO Pay is a gateway behind someone else’s checkout, not an account you open

If you have landed here because an M-PESA prompt mentioned DPO, you have not been charged by a company you never dealt with. DPO is the rail the shop you were buying from uses to take the money. This page explains what that means for your payment, your receipt and your refund.

What DPO accepts in Kenya

On the card side: Visa, Mastercard and American Express. On mobile money: M-PESA and Airtel Money. For merchants, DPO settles in KSH, USD, GBP or another currency of their choosing, which is why a Kenyan shop selling to buyers abroad often sits on a gateway rather than a plain paybill.

Its product range is the usual gateway spread: a hosted checkout, payment links, a card machine, QR scanning, shopping-cart plugins and fraud screening. None of that changes anything for you as a buyer. It changes which button the shop clicked.

We cannot tell you what DPO costs, and neither can anyone else

If you are a merchant weighing DPO against the alternatives, the honest answer is that DPO does not publish pricing. There is no pricing page and no fee schedule on their site. We checked this properly rather than assuming: every internal link on dpogroup.com was extracted and read on 13 September 2026, and neither a pricing page nor an FAQ page exists in their own link map.

Rates are quoted on application, against your volumes. So treat any page quoting you a specific DPO percentage with suspicion, because whoever wrote it did not get it from DPO. Ask DPO directly and get the number in writing.

Where a provider does publish its fees, we publish them too. See Pesapal, SasaPay, Tingg and Cellulant.

If the payment goes wrong, chase the shop first

This is the part worth remembering. The gateway moved money because the merchant told it to. The merchant is who decides whether a refund happens, and the merchant is who holds your order. Going to DPO first usually costs you a day and ends with being sent back to the shop anyway.

Go to DPO only once the merchant has confirmed a refund was issued and it still has not reached you. At that point you have a settlement question, which is a gateway question. Keep the M-PESA confirmation SMS either way: it carries the transaction reference both sides will ask for.

If the prompt itself looked wrong, our guide to reversing a paybill or Buy Goods payment covers what can and cannot be pulled back, and how quickly you have to move.

About this page

paybillke is an independent payments directory. We are not DPO Pay, we have no commercial relationship with them, and we cannot see your transaction. Everything above was read off dpogroup.com on 13 September 2026. DPO’s Africa head office is at Avenue 5 building, Rose Avenue, Nairobi, on +254 730 847 847. For a specific payment, contact the shop you bought from.

Questions

What is the DPO Pay paybill number?
There is not one for shoppers. DPO is a gateway that sits behind a merchant’s checkout, so you pay the merchant through DPO rather than paying DPO. Any M-PESA prompt you approve is raised by the gateway on the merchant’s behalf.
What does DPO Pay charge?
DPO does not publish its pricing. There is no pricing page and no fee schedule anywhere on dpogroup.com. Merchant rates are quoted on application, so anyone showing you a specific DPO percentage is not getting it from DPO.
Why did I get an M-PESA prompt from a name I do not recognise?
Gateways often show their own trading name rather than the shop’s on the prompt. Check the amount against your cart before approving. If the amount is right, the prompt is almost certainly the checkout you just used.
Who do I contact about a refund, DPO or the shop?
The shop. The gateway moved the money on the merchant’s instruction, so the merchant decides whether a refund happens. Contact DPO only if the merchant confirms a refund was issued and it has not arrived.
What payment methods does DPO Pay accept in Kenya?
Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, plus mobile money including M-PESA and Airtel Money. DPO also supports settlement in KSH, USD, GBP and other currencies for merchants.
Is DPO Pay the same as DPO Group?
Yes. The business now trades as DPO Pay by Network. Its Africa headquarters is on Rose Avenue, Nairobi.
