Bank app pull fees are typical ranges for major Kenyan banks; your bank's exact tariff may differ slightly. Note: bank app pull only works for sending to your own account. For sending to someone else, use paybill.
When does each method win?
Paybill is cheaper at low amounts
Under KES 1,000 the M-PESA paybill fee is just KES 5-10. Bank app pulls have a floor of around KES 30-35. Paybill wins clearly at this end.
Bank app pull wins in the middle
For amounts between KES 5,000 and KES 50,000, the bank app pull fee is typically a flat KES 35-100, while the paybill fee scales with amount and reaches KES 67 at the KES 20,000-50,000 bracket. App pull tends to win here.
Roughly tied at the top end
For amounts above KES 50,000, both methods cap out around KES 100-150. Differences are small. Pick whichever is more convenient.
Two important caveats
- Bank app pull only works for your own account. For sending to someone else (rent, school fees, supplier), paybill is the only route — you can't pull money into someone else's account.
- Bank app pull fees vary by bank. The numbers shown are typical ranges across major Kenyan banks. Premium account holders often get reduced or waived fees. Check your bank's app for the live tariff.
